The Best On Camera Microphone for Under 200.00? The Deity D3 Pro Review.

Updated: Jul 5, 2019

My quest for great audio from the smallest size, and most versatile on camera microphone is over. Enter the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro. This is easily the best and most versatile microphone for under 200.00 USD.

The Deity D3 Pro is a smart mic that will automatically change it's wiring setup to match what it is plugged into. That alone is fantastic but there is a lot more. It will go from standby to on as soon as it detects your camera powers on. If it stays in standby mode for 15 min then it will power down all the way. The built in battery lasts for 50+ hours of recording which is fantastic and it recharges in a couple of hours.

Beyond the smart features my favorite part of this mic is the stepless dial for controlling the gain. You can change from 0db to +20db and dial in exactly the amount of gain you need or want. That is a far cry from most competitors mics which offer a switch to choose one of 2 or 3 options.

It has a 3 selection low cut filter for no cut, cut at 75hz, and cut at 150hz which is excellent and makes dealing with wind or other low frequencies really easy. This mic is also very well built. The materials are metal and the Rycote shock mount is their proprietary materials which work incredibly well to reduce and eliminate handling noise.
